In this century,
different languages and cultures are increasingly impacting
our lives. In the United States, Spanish and the Latino
culture have had the greatest impact.
In the past, learning a second language used to be a way
to open doors, but now it has become a necessity. It can
expand horizons, stimulate the mind, feed curiosity, provide
opportunities for employment, travel and entertainment,
enhance cooperation among neighbors and build tolerance
among peoples.
The "Give Me a Hand" Program is an unique educational
and outreach initiative to help bridge the gap between Hispanics
and Americans to acquire a level of communication that
allows them to better interact in daily life situations
at school, work and business arenas and alleviate the difficulties
experienced due to lack of language and understanding of
the cultural beliefs, values and customs.
In this effort, we have taken a step ahead by introducing
free of charge computer based English as a Second Language
classes for non-English speaking individuals, which are
offered at three levels: beginning, intermediate and advanced.
